Before the Move
- Visit the vet for updated vaccinations and medical records
- Get a pet carrier your animal is comfortable in (let them explore it early)
- Research pet policies if moving to a rental or condo
- Update microchip information with your new address
On Moving Day
Keep pets in a quiet, closed room away from the action — or have a friend or pet sitter watch them off-site. Open doors, heavy items, and strangers are a recipe for escape attempts.
After the Move
- Set up their space first — familiar bed, bowls, and toys
- Keep cats indoors for at least 2 weeks while they adjust
- Maintain normal feeding and walking schedules
- Be patient — behavioral changes are normal and temporary
